About empowerYOU

EmpowerYOU is a federally-funded initiative under the auspices of the Nepperhan Community Center (NCC) in Yonkers, New York, under the leadership of the Center’s Executive Director, Dr. Jim Bostic. After decades of service in the city of Yonkers, NCC envisioned the need for something more: a program that would use nationally recognized evidence-based curriculum to address prominent problems found in the Lower Hudson Valley as well as throughout the United States. Hence, the ‘empowerYOU’ program was born.

EmpowerYOU focuses on enhancing knowledge, skills and attitudes in four areas: Financial Literacy, Parenting, Marriage and Relationships, and Job Readiness and Career Advancement. EmpowerYOU has been designed to target every demographic group, without regards to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status.

EmpowerYOU is currently operating in 6 cities in Westchester County, New York: Yonkers, Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Tuckahoe, Greenburgh, and White Plains. Each site partners with local governmental agencies, school districts, and faith-based institutions. EmpowerYOU, under the able leadership of its program director, Edward Lawson, J.D., M.B.A, has put together an incredible staff of professionals who are uniquely qualified to assist others in their quest to build their families and thus, to strengthen our communities.
